The launch of the "NGO Fund" programme

The opening event of the programme „NGO Fund”, which will be implemented and monitored by the Society Integration Foundation (SIF) of Latvia, was held on the 14th of November in Riga.

The opening speeches of the event were presented by Ms.Sarmīte Ēlerte, Freelance Advisor to the Prime Minister for National Identity, Civil Society and Integration Affairs, Mr.Andris Rāviņš, Chairman of the Council of SIF, Mr.Ragnar Haug, Adviser of Royal Norwegian Embassy in Latvia and Mr.Armands Eberhards, Deputy State Secretary on EU funds Issues of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Latvia. The participants of the event had an opportunity to follow a number of presentations about the programme and the planned framework projects. The second part of the event was dedicated to promotion of mutual partnership in order to help potential project managers to establish partnership with Donor State programme partners.

The aim of the "NGO Fund" programme is to contribute to the development of civil society and to provide support to social justice, democracy and sustainable development. The direct target groups of the programme are those non-governmental organizations, associations and foundations registered in the Republic of Latvia that are not pursuing solely business or professional interests of their own or their members. Instead, they should operate for the benefit of the whole society, and should be legally non-related to any public governance institutions, political parties or commercial organizations.

The programme consists of two sub-programmes: "NGO Activity Support Measure" and "NGO Project Measure". Implementation of the additional pre-defined project is also planned. The total funding available for the programme is ~10 million EUR jointly provided by the EEA Financial Mechanism and the State Budget of Latvia.

The public announcement of the Calls for Proposals in both "NGO Fund" sub-programmes is planned for November 27, 2012.
