During the Norwegian Constitution 200th Anniversary EEA and Norway Grants will be displayed in Riga

On Saturday May 17th, an informative event on European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway Grants will take place in culture chalet "Esplanade 2014". Participants of the event will receive detailed information on EEA/ Norway Grants supported programs and already existing contribution to Latvia, and will be able to participate in different activities and contests for adults and children alike. The event is a part of 200th anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution celebration, which will be widely celebrated also in Riga – the European Capital of Culture.

From 12.00 to 16.00 there will be an opening of the project "Unexpected Appointments" during which everyone will have a chance to use the "mobile eye" - to see and instantly communicate with people in Norway. In addition to rich information about opportunities provided by EEA and Norway Grants in Latvia, the contest with the main prize – a journey to Norway – will take place at the event. At the same time photo exhibition "Latvia through EEA/Norway Grants` Eyes" and book exhibition "Norwegian Literature in Latvia" will be displayed and a mini-course in Norwegian language will be provided. Awarding of the youth video competition "NO HATE speech online" winners and demonstration of the winning video will also take place in "Esplanade 2014".

The event will be enriched by Norwegian culture programme – Norwegian folk dances performed by dance group "Rūdis", Edward Grieg’s songs performed by soprano Ance Purmale and a play “Kurt Racks His Brain” performed by pupils` theatre "Zīļuks". On the culture chalet stage we will also see a contemporary dance performance "Ārā" ("Outside") by choreographer Olga Žitluhina, and thematic musical background provided by Norwegian band "AWAY".

67.48 million EUR are allocated as the financial assistance for Latvia from both Financial Mechanisms for the period of 2009-2014.The Grants are implemented through a programme approach and the overall objectives of the Grants are to contribute to the reduction of economic and social disparities within the EEA and to strengthen bilateral relations between the Donor States and the Beneficiary State.
